Top 4 Mistakes We See Biz Owners Make as They Scale to Six Figures

The 4 Phases of a Growing Product Business

You’ve started selling and your business is validated, but it feels overwhelming or even impossible to take things to the next level. Know that the hard part is over because you’ve already proven that people want to buy your stuff. That’s amazing! Next up, you have your sights set on $100k and you may already be a student of Multi-Stream Machine, but still, some of you will hit what feels like a bottleneck in growth.

Tune in to The Product Boss Podcast to Learn About the 4 Phases of a Growing Successful Small Business

Don’t worry! There are four phases to a growing business to pay attention to and we run through each one of them in this episode.

First, it’s important to refine your brand and business, regardless of the phase of business that you are in. That means digging in and getting clear on your business. Ask yourself…

What are you known for?

Why are people buying your product?

You obviously have something they want, so what can you do more of? What can you do less of? A lot of this stage of running a business comes down to the foundation. At every level, you should be refining and turning into that market fit of your business to cue into who your ideal customer really is.

As we go through these four phases that are essential to business growth, remember to take a breath and be the boss of your business! How We Are Investing in Ourselves This Year to Level Up

We decided to make 2022 the year we level up more than ever before. We’ve invested in ourselves over the years, but never like we are this year. Part of that means that, during this episode, we’re attending our first in-person Mastermind event of 2022 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Lucky for you, you’re being treated to a rare, in-person episode recorded in our hotel room.

Masterminds, Coaching, and Trainings – We Go Behind the Scenes on Product Boss Personal Development Priorities in 2022

While we prepare ourselves, we thought we’d take a moment and run through all the ways we’re investing in ourselves this year. Hopefully hearing how we’re investing in ourselves in 2022 will inspire you to find the best ways to level yourselves and your businesses up, too!

Normally, you hear about our own Mastermind program, but what about the ones we are a part of? All coaches are coached. Even the best coaches and businesses have coaches of their own. Being an entrepreneur is tough and we all need help from others sometimes, it’s totally normal!

We talk about how we made it through the season of life we were in when we first started our business to where we are at now, the other Masterminds we signed up for, the incredible retreats we are planning to attend, and even the coaches and courses we’re investing in. It’s truly a behind-the-scenes look at our 2022 gameplan to level up The Product Boss. We’re excited to share this with you!

Joy Cho Of Oh Joy! on How She Juggles It All

Joy Cho is the founder and Creative Director of Oh Joy!, a graphic design studio, lifestyle brand, and design company that has collaborated with top brands and organizations from Target to Band-Aid – even The White House.

Joy Cho, of Oh Joy!, Joins Product Boss to Chat Business, Branding & Michelle Obama

Joy is a master of many trades, having also worked as a graphic designer, blogger, mama of two, consultant for numerous businesses, and having authored six books (with a seventh on the way). She was named one of Time’s 30 Most Influential People on the Internet two years running, and she holds the most popular account on Pinterest with over 15 million followers (something she’s in the Guinness Book of World Records for, by the way).

She joins us to discuss her unusual path to profit. It’s an amazing reminder that no one goes on the same journey as anyone else. Whatever you’re doing and wherever you are in life, your path doesn’t necessarily have to look like anyone else’s. There’s a lot to learn from her account of just how her brand took off and, then, leveled up to the huge success story that they are today.

We also talk about what it’s like to be the face of your business when you’re an introvert. Joy believes it’s something you can learn, and gives advice for anyone who wants to step into the limelight to sell their products but lacks the confidence to do it. She believes the personal connection you can offer to your company can be really meaningful for your customers, so it’s definitely advice worth taking.

This is a wide ranging conversation, where we touch on everything from hiring and scaling your business to the point that feels comfortable to you, how Joy balances work with her family life, and the time Michelle Obama invited Joy to design the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. This episode is a total joy, so listen now!

The Objections Makers Have That Are Keeping Them Stuck

There are a few things that come up again and again when we talk to makers. These mental roadblocks don’t serve any real purpose – they just get in the way! That’s why we’re dedicating this episode to taking some of them apart, explaining why you should stop listening to the nagging voices of doubt in your head, and why you’re a true product boss!

Leave These Limiting, Fictional Stories In The Past As You Step Into Your Successful Product Business Journey

A lot of you are makers because you’re creatives at heart. It makes sense: get so good at making things and it’d almost be silly not to start selling them. The problem is that so many of you run into this mental block as you try to build a business where you think, “I’m not a business person; I’m a creative!” It might seem strange at first, but there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t be both.

Your customers don’t care who is actually making your products so long as the quality stays the same. Think about the products you buy and the brands you support. Would you be upset if you found out that the founder of the company wasn’t personally making each product themselves? Of course not! So, then why do you think that you have to create every single one of your products with your own two hands? The answer is you don’t. It’s just a limiting belief that you, as a maker and product boss, have about your business!

It’s very common to have these limiting beliefs – especially as a maker. So just know you aren’t alone, but that we are here to help. Listen to the episode to hear us go through various examples and show you why you need to shift that mindset – you are an amazing product boss with an incredible product!

"Help! I've Been Doing This for Years, Why Can't I Grow My Business?"

It’s really easy to feel like you’re stuck on a hamster wheel. You’re busy – really busy. It’s not like you’re not working hard. You’re moving and doing all the things, but when you stop and look at your progress, it doesn’t seem like you’re actually getting anywhere. We all feel like this at some point after starting a business. It’s completely normal.

Follow These Tips To Get Off The Hamster Wheel & Take Your Business to the Next Level

You just need to learn how to get off the wheel and start taking steps forward. There are a few basic rules to remember that can completely turn your company's growth around. A lot of you are scared of change. But remember that that’s also normal. Change is a good thing and it’s what we want to achieve so that your business can grow.

The first major tip we cover in this episode is the importance of needle movers. A needle mover is something that takes little effort but pays off with lots of return on investment (ROI). We like to focus on small things that either save time or earn money in the long run. One of the most common things people view as a needle mover is social media, but, the truth is, this isn’t always the case – especially lately. For a lot of people, ROI on social media isn’t actually that strong.

A better example is taking the time to fully understand your numbers. For example, most businesses operate on the 80/20 principle which means that 20% of their products account for 80% of their revenue. If you know which 20% of your products are your best sellers, you can better tailor your whole business operation to capitalize on those products.

To hear us explain this in further detail, as well as discuss the other ways you can finally get your business moving on its way to the next level, listen to the whole episode now.
